Prop 65 Settlement for Flame Retardants

Friday, April 26th, 2013

A recent California Proposition 65 Settlement has been reached for tris (1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate, also known as TDCPP, as well as a number of other flame retardants in foam-cushioned pads for children and infants to lie on, such as rest mats. In the settlement, the defendant agreed to eliminate polyurethane foam treated with any halogenated or phosphorous-based flame retardants from their mats. The settlement identifies 13 specific flame retardant chemicals, but only two of them are currently included on the list of Proposition 65 chemicals, TDCPP and TECP.
